Product Overview

What is the CON-X?

The CON-X is a non-contact, online XRF analyser designed to identify and measure the concentration of elements in ores and bulk materials moving on a conveyor belt — in real time, without stopping production or taking samples.

The analyser head is mounted over or across the belt, irradiating the material stream and detecting characteristic X-ray fluorescence using a Silicon Drift Detector (SDD). It measures all elements from sulphur (Z=16) through uranium (Z=92) with laboratory-grade energy resolution of 160 eV at 5.9 keV. Results are delivered continuously to your DCS or SCADA system via 4–20 mA, Modbus TCP/RTU, or OPC-UA.

Proven in iron ore, coal, cement, phosphate, and metallurgical applications worldwide — wherever consistent elemental data is critical to process efficiency and product quality.

  • Coal & Industrial Minerals

Ash content, sulphur, and key mineral ratios monitored in real time for coal, phosphate, potash, and other bulk commodities.

Materials Analysed

  • Iron ore
  • Ferrochrome
  • Manganese ore
  • Other base metal ores
  • Quartz sand (Fe content)
  • Slag of various types
  • Coatings on metal bulk material
Technology

Key Features

  • Non-destructive, non-contact analysis above the moving belt - no sampling or production interruption.

  • High precision maintained under industrial conditions: dust, temperature fluctuations, and humidity.

  • Stable performance across varying material lump sizes (6–25 cm range handled natively).

  • Available in light-element and heavy-element configurations to suit specific ore or mineral types.

  • Simple operation with intuitive interface; minimal operator training required.

  • Empty-belt exclusion algorithm automatically suppresses measurements when belt runs empty.

  • Remote Internet support available from BSI for diagnostics and calibration assistance.

  • Flexible data output: 4–20 mA analogue, Modbus TCP/RTU, and OPC-UA for seamless DCS/SCADA integration.

  • Configurable alarms and set-points for off-grade material diversion.

  • Historical trend logging for quality assurance and reporting.

Business Impact

Fast Payback & Measurable Savings

Online elemental analysis directly improves your bottom line across three areas.

Raw Material Savings

Continuous composition data allows precise blending and reduces over-specification of premium-grade feed. Less waste, tighter tolerances.

Time Savings

Eliminate sampling delays and laboratory turnaround. Process adjustments happen in seconds based on live data, not hours-old lab results.

Increased Productivity

Stable, optimised feed quality reduces variability in downstream processes, improving throughput and reducing unplanned downtime.

Installation

Installation Considerations

Key points to ensure accurate measurement and long service life in your plant environment.

  • Belt material level distance from the analyser window must fall within the predetermined range.

  • Installation should minimise belt vibration (unit weight approx. 45 kg).

  • Empty-belt exclusion algorithm flushes belt-gap readings so the reported grade reflects pure ore concentration.

  • Multiple suspension options available: frame, crane, cart, and ski mount.

  • Installation should avoid close proximity to EMI sources such as motors.

  • The analyser reports an average result over the predetermined measurement time for material moving on the belt.

  • Statistical repeatability depends on standard XRF factors — grain size, distance to material surface, measurement time, and signal attenuation through material layers.

  • Periodic cleaning of the analyser window is recommended.

  • Calibration is performed using the customer's own known reference samples.
