Our Story
Fenno-Aurum Oy Ltd was founded in 2012 in Finland with a singular purpose: to bring laboratory-grade radiation detection technology to research institutions, industrial clients, and space agencies worldwide.
The name reflects our roots - Fenno for Finland, Aurum for gold - symbolising the quality and precision at the core of everything we make.
We design and manufacture gas-filled proportional counters capable of detecting X-ray, gamma-ray, and ultraviolet radiation across a wide range of energies. Our instruments are trusted in XRF analysis, space instrumentation, food safety, ore sorting, and cutting-edge scientific research.
As an OEM manufacturer, we supply both standard detector configurations and fully bespoke systems - supported by our in-house low-noise preamplifiers, high-voltage power supplies, and signal electronics.

Founder

Dr. Heikki J. Sipilä
M.Sc. (Tech.) 1969 · D.Sc. (Tech.) 1978 · Helsinki University of Technology, Department of Technical Physics
Founder & Pioneer in X-Ray Detector Technology
“Empirical verification of theories is incorruptible; nature is not built on epicycles or correction parameters.”
Dr. Sipilä is a globally recognised pioneer in X-ray and gamma detector technology with over five decades of experience. He originated the portable X-MET X-ray fluorescence analyser and the Courier 30 continuous XRF analyser at Outokumpu Oy, led the development of high-resolution proportional counters at Outokumpu Electronics, and initiated space instrument development at Outokumpu Instruments. He co-founded Metorex International Oy and Baltic Scientific Instruments, leading space instrument programmes with detectors deployed in scientific satellites across Europe, the USA, and Japan. He is a Member of the Finnish Academy of Technology and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in nuclear instrumentation.
